The Story Behind AMOUROUD

AMOUROUD was born from the legacy of The Perfumer’s Workshop, a pioneering fragrance house that gained international recognition for introducing the visionary concept of custom-made perfumes more than 45 years ago. While personalized fragrance experiences have become commonplace today, they were revolutionary at the time.

During the 1970s, Donald Bauchner, founder of The Perfumer’s Workshop, moved from New York to London, where he established the brand in prestigious department stores such as Harrods and Selfridges. Around the same period, the Lebanese Civil War led many affluent Middle Eastern travellers to choose London over Beirut as their preferred destination.

The Perfumer’s Workshop offered a collection of 64 essential oils, yet one ingredient was notably absent: oud. For centuries, oud had been deeply rooted in Middle Eastern culture and perfumery, and the growing demand from Arab customers sparked Bauchner’s curiosity. Fascinated by its depth, richness, and mysterious character, he began studying and working with the precious ingredient.

At the time, however, oud was virtually unknown in Western perfumery. His Middle Eastern distributors even advised against using it, believing Western consumers were not yet ready for such an intense and distinctive note.

Despite these warnings, Bauchner remained captivated by oud’s unique beauty. The ingredient continued to inspire him for decades, ultimately leading to the launch of AMOUROUD in 2013. The debut collection featured ten fragrances, each celebrating the luxurious and multifaceted nature of oud. The brand’s name itself reflects this passion, combining the words “Amour” and “Oud” to create AMOUROUD.

Today, AMOUROUD is an olfactory collection of memories, stories, emotions, and imagination. Real and imagined experiences are translated into fragrance through carefully selected flowers, woods, roots, resins, and spices. At the heart of every creation lies a sense of serenity, pleasure, and love.

The Collections

Over the years, AMOUROUD has expanded into several distinct collections, each with its own identity.

The original collection, recognizable by its elegant black and gold bottles, remains true to the brand’s roots. Every fragrance in this range contains oud, showcasing the ingredient in different interpretations and styles.

Recognizing that not every fragrance lover is drawn to oud, AMOUROUD later introduced a second collection housed in white and gold bottles. These fragrances maintain the brand’s signature quality and sophistication while exploring compositions without oud.

For those seeking the ultimate luxury experience, AMOUROUD created its Elixir Collection—the crown jewel of the house. These Extrait de Parfums feature higher concentrations of fragrance oils and are crafted using some of the world’s rarest and purest natural ingredients. The collection can be identified by the distinctive green or red gemstone-inspired caps adorning the bottles.

Finally, the collection presented in colourful bottles places a greater emphasis on floral compositions. These fragrances celebrate the beauty of flowers while maintaining the richness, depth, and craftsmanship that define the AMOUROUD name.
