Azzurro was the great Italian hit of 1968, written by Paolo Conte and immortalized by Adriano Celentano. In his unmistakable style, Celentano sang of the deep blue summer sky and the longing for a distant love. Decades later, the song was embraced by Gli Azzurri, the Italian national football team, who famously reinterpreted it after their 2006 World Cup victory in Germany.
