After Venice, Naples is home to more patron saints than any other city in Italy, with an astonishing fifty-two protectors. Among them, San Gennaro (Saint Januarius) remains the most revered. Three times each year, on the first Sunday of May, September 19th, and December 16th, the entire city holds its breath as the saint's blood is displayed before thousands of faithful citizens.
According to tradition, whether the blood liquefies determines the fate of Naples. If it remains solid, it is believed to foretell difficult times ahead. History has only reinforced this belief: in years when the miracle failed to occur, the city later faced war, occupation, earthquakes, and other tragedies. Most notably, the blood did not liquefy in 2020.
The fragrance reflects this powerful ritual through an intense and passionate rose accord. Metallic nuances in the spicy opening create intrigue, while gourmand and fruity elements emerge throughout the development. The composition ultimately settles into a deep, rich woody base that gives the fragrance remarkable depth and character.
