Revolution! In 1848, uprisings erupted across Europe and Milan was swept into turmoil during the historic Five Days of Milan. The streets of the city center became battlefields, while the air filled with clouds of gunpowder, curls of tobacco smoke, bonfires of burning wood and the aromas of coffee and cognac. A rugged, masculine olfactory universe reflected in a “lived-in” fragrance with a resolute and rebellious spirit.
Ten years after the suppression of the revolts of 1848, the people of Milan once again raised their voices. Writing “Viva Verdi” on the city walls: a tribute to the great composer Giuseppe Verdi, but also a hidden political message in support of Victor Emmanuel II against imperial rule.
